The Agganis Program is offered in 7 convenient locations in the Boston area.

We have daytime, evening and weekend classroom sessions to accommodate your teenager’s schedule. In addition, we offer weekly road test services.

As a courtesy to our students and parents, we send email confirmations of class schedule, each driving lesson, and weekly road tests.

Do you have male and female instructors?

Yes, we have both male and female instructors available for driving lessons.

What forms of payment are accepted?

Check, Money Order, all Credit and Debit Cards are acceptable forms of payment for the driver’s education program. We also have gift cards, which would make the perfect gift. Please click here to purchase your gift card today.

Does the Massachusetts Department of Transportation license Agganis Driving School?

Yes, we are fully licensed and approved by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation.

Are your instructors background checked?

Yes, all Agganis instructors have a driving record and CORI report on file. Our 45 driving instructors include police officers, teachers, firefighters, Class A professional truck drivers and court officers—individuals.

Classes and Fees

When are driving lessons offered?

Driving lessons and observation time are offered by appointment seven days a week during the hours of 7:00AM through 8:00PM.

What is observation?

Observation is when a student sits in the back seat of the car during a driving lesson and observes another student driving.

How does a student schedule driving lessons?

To schedule driving lessons go to agganis.com and use your online username and password.
Please remember:

  • The parent class must be completed with Agganis Driving School before scheduling your behind-the-wheel training.
  • We must have a signed copy of the parent/student contract on file.
  • The course must be paid in full.
  • We need a copy of your permit.

How long is a driving lesson?

Each driving lesson runs for approximately 2 hours, with the student driving for 1½ hours and observing for approximately 30 minutes. Students will receive credit for time served.

How many students are in the car during a driving lesson?

There are typically 2-3 students in the vehicle during a driving lesson.

Where are students picked up for driving lessons?

As a convenience to our customers, students are picked up by an instructor at home, school, work, etc. Pick-up location must be designated at the time the lesson is booked.

What are the fees and when are they due?

For a list of all fees please see the tuition section on our website. The full program includes 30 hours classroom instruction, 12 hours of behind the wheel driving, 6 hours of observation time. A deposit is due at the time of enrollment.

I completed 30 hours of classroom with another driving school. Can I complete my 12 hours of behind the wheel instruction and 6 hours observation with Agganis Driving School?

Yes, this is called limited participation. Please contact our office and we will begin the process for you.

What if I miss a class? Can classes be made up?

Any missed class must be made up. The student must attend that exact class.

Do you offer private lessons and what is the cost?

Yes, we offer one-on-one instruction; the fee is $150 per lesson, which includes 1½ hours of behind-the-wheel training.

Legal, Registry and License Test

How long do I have to complete the Driver Education Program?

The MassDOT requires you to complete a Driver Education Program within a two year period. Unfortunately, If you fail to complete the program during this time, you must re-take the full course.*

When do I receive my Driver Education Certificate?

Driver education certificates are filed electronically in the State system.

What do I need to bring with me to the Registry of Motor Vehicles to get a learner’s permit and what is the fee?

The fee for the learners permit is $30. Click here to review.

I have an international driver’s license. Do I need to get a Massachusetts learners permit?

Yes. You have one year to obtain a Massachusetts driver license.

What are the requirements to get a license? Effective September 1, 2007

30 hours classroom
12 hours behind-the-wheel
6 hours observing
40 hours supervised driving with parent or guardian
2 hour parent awareness class

What are the Teen Driving Rules? Effective March 31, 2007

Here are some highlights:
Driving with other passengers in first six months
1st offense: 60 day license suspension
2nd offense: 180 day suspension
3rd offense: 1 year suspension

Junior Operator driving between midnight and 5 a.m.
1st offense: 60 day license suspension
2nd offense: 180 day suspension
3rd offense: 1 year suspension

Permit Holder driving without an adult or between midnight and 5 a.m.
1st offense: 60 day license suspension
2nd offense: 180 day suspension
3rd offense: 1 year suspension

Junior Operator drag racing
1st offense: $250 plus 1 year license suspension plus $500 to reinstate license
2nd offense: $500 plus 3 years license suspension plus $1000 to reinstate

Junior Operator speeding (in addition to fines)
1st offense: 90 day license suspension plus $500 to reinstate license
2nd offense: 1 year suspension plus $500 to reinstate

What are the Mobile Phones and Text Messaging Violations and Penalties? Effective February 23, 2020

Under 18
No one under 18 years of age may use a mobile device while driving!
This includes: Talking, Texting, Hands fee devices as well as accessing the internet.

Violations & Penalties
1st offense: $100.00 fine, 60 day suspension. and must complete the attitude retraining course.
2nd offense: $250.00 fine, 180 day suspension
3rd offense: $500.00 fine, 1 year suspension

Over 18

Over the age of 18, you can only use electronic devices and mobile phones in hands-free mode. Activation of GPS navigation is permitted when the device is installed or properly mounted. Handheld use is allowed only if the vehicle is both stationary and not located in a public travel lane or a bicycle lane, but is not allowed at red lights or stop signs. Voice to text and communication to electronic devices is legal only when device is properly mounted; use of headphone (one ear) is permitted.
